| The Gulbene - Aluksne Banitis is the last public narrow gauge railway left in Latvia. Normally there are 3 or 4 trains each way per day, taking 90 mins for the 33km. A festival is held in early September every year, and in 2003 they celebrated their centenary.
Normal operation is by type TU2 or TU7 diesel locos, but a steam loco is on extended loan from the Estonian Railway Museum, and is undergoing restoration. |
